This is the second title in a new series on cutting-edge topics in New Product Development from the PDMA. The first volume NPD Essentials: Tools for Open Innovation publishes in September 2014. The goal of this new proposed book on design thinking is to bridge the space between the necessarily high level discussions of the strategic importance of design and the tactical techniques of design thinking. The publication will cover design thinking as applied to new products and new services as well as the development of new business models.



About the Author

Abbie Griffin holds the Royal L. Garff Presidential Chair in Marketing at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. She was the editor of the Journal of Product Innovation Management from 1998-2003. Ms. Griffin authored Serial Innovators: How Individuals Create and Deliver Breakthrough Innovations in Mature Firms (Stanford, 2012) 
Michael G. Luchs is an Assistant Professor at the College of William and Mary Mason School of Business. Dr. Luch's research has been published in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Consumer Policy, and the Journal of Business Research. 
K. Scott Swan is a Professor of International Business, Design, and Marketing at the College of William and Mary Mason School of Business. He has lectured internationally and conductede economic impact studies for the Virginia Port Authority. Dr. Swan has worked in project management for Flour-Daniel, marketing management for Foremost Corporation of America, as well as founding several small businesses related to design.
