This book starts off from where its predecessor ended and progresses with the tale of the victorious Moghul dynasty and its Emperor Akbar. The book reveals how the triumphant empire contained the seeds to its own annihilation.

Empire Of The Moghul: Ruler Of The World describes the reign of Akbar over almost one sixth of the global population, which placed him above Queen Elizabeth I in the power sweepstakes. He is presented as immensely wealthy and ruthless to the point of being despotic. His empire is shown as resting on the contrary forces of respect for all religions and unfathomable bloodshed resulting from his Asian conquests. The empire spread over most of Asia, manned by thousands of soldiers, elephants and other war devices. The book starts with the fourteen year old Emperor slaying a couple of tigers and learning of the invasion of Delhi by Hemu subsequently. This sets the tone for the rest of the novel and the book showcases the expansion of the Moghul Empire, battles across Bengal and Bihar, and campaigns in Kashmir and Gujarat.

Empire Of The Moghul: Ruler Of The World talks about the hundreds of rebellions throughout Akbar’s reign and his religious philosophy of Din-e-Ilahi. The book also showcases the Emperor’s marriage to Hirabai, the Rajput princess of Amber, which defied Moghul conventions, mullahs and family. Akbar’s relationship with his son Salim breaks down as a result. The book is a compelling journey through trust, betrayal, rebellion and competition among heirs.

Diana Preston is a broadcaster, author, historian and academic.

Preston has also written A First Rate Tragedy: Robert Falcon Scott and the Race to the South Pole, Cleopatra and Antony, Besieged in Peking: The Story of the 1900 Boxer Rising, The Human Chain Reaction from Marie Curie to Hiroshima and Before the Fall-Out.

Preston was a modern history student at Oxford University and worked as a travel and feature writer for national magazines and newspapers in the UK. She has also reviewed books for The Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal. She has also worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and BBC as a broadcaster and has also appeared in television documentaries. She is also a recipient of the LA Times Book Prize.

Michael Preston is a historian and traveler.

Preston has also co-authored A Teardrop on the Cheek of Time and A Pirate of Exquisite Mind.

Preston studied English at Oxford University. Being a historian and avid globetrotter, he has travelled extensively across Asia, Antarctica and Africa with his wife Diana.
