Many Indians have admitted that “India grows at night”. This is just half the saying which is actually: “Indian grows at night…when the government sleeps”. This comes to say that the nation is rising despite the state. Many will also agree that India is a country of private success and public failure.
Summary of the Book
Even though the behavior of the government has been affecting our public life, the country has been growing more and more prosperous each day. Though, how is it that the nation is able to grow when it has a government that is weak and continues to fail us? Don't you agree that it would be fruitful to the nation if the country grew even during the day, i.e., if public policy supported private enterprise? According to the author, India requires a strong and stable state. This will be a state that will have the authority to take quick action, and would have to abide rules that will ensure that the actions are legitimate. However, this would be very difficult to achieve considering the fact that throughout history India is known to have a weak state and a strong society.
