Sam Walton: Made In America by Sam Walton

This book covers the inspiring story of Walmart founder Sam Walton, about his hard work and dedication that led to the creation of world’s largest retail empire.

Summary Of The Book

A lot has been written about the success story of Walmart, the largest retailer and the third largest public corporation in the world. For years, it has been the subject of analysis and speculation for everyone from leading news publications to management theorists. However, Sam Walton, the man behind this retail giant, always maintained distance from public attention, even when he was named the richest man in America by Forbes magazine. In Made in America, Walton finally lets the world in on his story, which is also the glorious story of the creation of his retail legacy.

In a narrative full of personal anecdotes and candid revelations, Walton recounts his life journey from his childhood days of selling milk and magazine subscriptions to opening his first retail store in Arkansas and eventually becoming the richest man in America. On the way, he shares his highest held values, his passions, and his views on the American way of doing business. Towards the end of the book, Walton leaves the readers with his invaluable wisdom on running a successful company- a set of ten rules that worked for him.

Walton wrote the book towards the end of his life. John Huey, the editor-in-chief of Time Inc. co-authored it. The book remained on The New York Times bestseller list for many months.
