About Harivansh Rai Bachchan
Harivansh Rai Bachchan was an eminent Hindi poet. He was born in 1907 in a small village in Uttar Pradesh. Following the family tradition, he studied Urdu at Kayastha schools. When he was studying at Benares Hindu University, he was highly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi.
He belonged to the ‘Chhayavaad’ or romantic school of poetry, a movement that blossomed and grew in the early part of the twentieth century. Madhushala is his best known work. Some of his poems are Madhubala, Madhukalash, Aakul Antar, Nisha Nimantran, and Ekaant Sangeet.
His parents were Pratap Narayan Shrivastav and Sarasvathi Devi. He was called Bachchan, meaning promise. Harivansh Rai Bachchan is the father of Bollywood Superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
