A sequel to Journeys through Babudom and Netaland, Government in India: An Inside View is an analysis of the issues of government in India. The instruments of governance and their components are subjected to micro-analysis in terms of past performance, and the macro-results of these actions has been summarized.
What has emerged is the knowledge of the formation of a self-serving elite preoccupied with its vested interests, served by the entire administration, including its infrastructure and development programmes. The voice of the common man goes unheard and as a result, more than sixty years after independence, the poorer segments of Indian society remain impoverished.
Examining the constitutional institutions from the perspective of his close proximity to these agencies, an association more than forty-years-old, T.S.R. Subramanian points out specific directions for remedial action that could start a meaningful debate towards serious reform. The author’s knowledge spares no agency, however mighty, and directly assesses the contribution of each to national welfare.
